ABOUT THE COFFEE

Ethiopia Uraga Bisrat

Sorting coffee cherry

Guji is a region in southern Ethiopia that produces coffees whose flavor profiles are distinctly different from those grown in nearby Yirgacheffe and Sidamo. The Oromo people of Guji have ancient roots in coffee production, evidenced by their organic farming practices and by the coffee trees nestled in the area’s semi-forested landscapes.

The Uraga Bisrat washing station in Guji is run by Bisrat Melaku, who, unlike many station owners, manages his own coffee farm. During harvest, six hundred neighboring farmers deliver coffee cherries to his station. The sum of their collections yields a beautifully balanced coffee with deep sweetness and dazzling acidity.
