ABOUT THE COFFEE
Kenya Ngethu

We’ve proudly partnered with Edwin and Mary Kamau since 2019, sourcing standout coffees from each of their three farms. Ngethu—first visited by our team in 2022—is a six-acre plot in Kiambu County, planted with Ruiru 11 and shaded by macadamia. The variety’s natural resistance to disease, along with the farm’s favorable microclimate, allows the Kamaus to forgo chemical pest control while sustaining healthy trees and producing outstanding cup quality.

This lot was selectively handpicked at peak ripeness from trees growing at 1800 meters and washed at the family’s Kimata station, where their meticulous processing brings out the vibrant, fruit-driven character we seek from Kenya’s best coffees.
Beyond production, the Kamaus continue to build their impact through Edmax, their Nairobi-based roastery and café, where they aim to foster a thriving local coffee culture grounded in transparency and sustainability.
On a recent visit to the Ngethu farm, we were impressed by Mary and Edwin’s Ruiru 11 variety cultivation. Developed to be resistant to coffee berry borer beetles and coffee leaf rust, this variety eliminates the need for chemical pesticides.
