Kenya Kimata

Red plum, vanilla, lime

Kimata is one of three farms led by entrepreneurs Edwin and Mary Kamau. We’ve been working with the Kamaus since 2019—having initially roasted coffees from their Kairima and Ngethu farms, we’ve seen the quality from Kimata shine in recent years. Vanilla and honey tones permeate this selection, with lively citrus and red plum accents.

ABOUT THE COFFEE

Kenya Kimata

Though newer to specialty production and farming practices, the Kamaus have been cultivating coffee since the 1960s, and their vision and dedication are evident in the exceptional lots they provide to us each year. Their exacting methods at Kimata, combined with the rich volcanic soil of nearby Mount Kenya, deliver a vibrant coffee with lively lime and grapefruit character, dense sweetness, and ripe stone fruit tones.

The Kamaus’ multigenerational legacy now extends beyond their farms: under the brand Edmax, they roast coffee and run a café in Nairobi with the goal of increasing local consumption and fostering a vibrant community coffee culture. This commitment, in addition to their guiding principles of quality, sustainability, and transparency, has made it an honor to work and spend time with them over the past six years.
